Intrigued to see that the first ever “completely user-generated event” will be taking place right here in Manchester next month.
Supported by the North West Development Agency and New East Manchester, the Cutting Room Experiment is aiming to use “the power of the web” to produce what looks like a kind of T-Mobile ad (see above) writ large.
The ambitious idea is for people to create the entire June 20 event themselves by generating ideas for flash mobs, voting for their favourites, and then acting out the most popular (in 12 different categories) on the day itself.
This is obviously intended as a publicity-driver for the regenerated Cutting Room space in Ancoats, but the results should be fascinating and I suspect it will be a huge success. As a way of demonstrating the power of social media, I hope so.
If nothing else, it’ll make a great regional news item.
